Melon Ice Cream
Ice cream which is a frozen dessert made from milk and cream and often combined with fruits or other ingredients and flavours remained a rare and exotic dessert until 1800's. It was enjoyed mostly by the elite. Due to technological innovations in the late 19th century, ice cream production increased and wide availability of ice cream led to new creations. The most common method for producing ice cream at home is to use an ice cream maker though some ice cream recipes call for making a custard, folding in whipped cream, and immediately freezing the mixture. This recipe I am going to share with you, can be made both ways. Itis amazingly good and tempting. I love making ice cream at home especially melon ice cream. It is always a goer.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound melon pulp
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp rum
How To:
Add the melon pulp and the rum into the food processor and process and puree until smooth. In a separete bowl mix egg yolks with sugar until thick, creamy and pale yellow.
In another bowl whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Fold the cream into the egg yolks. Then add melon puree and stir to combine. Transfer the mix in a covered storage container and place in the freezer.
If you have an ice cream maker transfer the complete mixture into your ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer?s instructions. Usually this takes 20-25 minutes. When done freeze for at least 10 hrs or overnight.
Enjoy!
