Frozen Chocolate Covered Bananas
As I was heading to the kitchen this morning I was thinking about my grandchildren who were coming for a short visit in the afternoon. They would love this tasty frozen treat. Bananas dipped in melted chocolate and rolled in almond flakes and candy springles. Later I realized that these goodies were also for the child in me too.
Who can resist to the the sweet flavor of a frozen banana enrobed in a thin coating of dark chocolate.? Eat them plain or roll them in chopped almonds, granola or candied sprinkles. A perfect frozen treat on a hot summer's day.
Ingredients:
- 5-6 ripe but firm bananas
- 8-9 ounces semisweet, white or bitter chocolate
- 3-4 tablespoons butter - unsalted
- 1/2 cup of granola, flaked almonds, candy sprinkles
- cookie or popsickle sticks
How To:
Melt the white, semisweet or bitter chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl placed over a saucepan of simmering water. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Arrange the dipping decorations on flat plates. Cut the bananas in half with their skin on.
Insert a cookie stick or a popsicle stick, into the cut end of the banana. Push it half way in. Freeze for about an hour. Then remove and peel the skins off bananas one at a time.
Working with one banana at a time dip the banana piece into the melted chocolate of your choice. Make sure the banana is completely covered.
Roll the chocolate covered banana in flaked almonds or candy sprinkles. Place them back on the baking sheet and freeze. Serve immmediately or freeze in an airtight container for up to a week.
30 minutes before serving, remove them from the freezer and place them in the refrigerator so that the bananas soften.
Enjoy!
